Applying for Scholarships

If you don't apply for scholarships, you are just throwing away free money that you could spend on educational expenses.  Money awarded through scholarships doesn't ever have to be paid back and that money can save you hundreds-even thousands-of dollars over the course of your college career.  Scholarships are usually awarded to those who go above and beyond the normal boundaries of their classmates.  Why not go for it?  You have absolutely nothing to lose, and everything to gain!

Eligibility

Eligibility for the GySgt Christopher W. Eckard Scholarship is limited to the children or grandchildren of veterans. 

The parent or grandparent must have served at least one day of active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States.  A photocopy of Certificate of Release from Active Duty (DD214) or Certificate of Death (DD1300) is required.

Requirements
  • Applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA, proven leadership ability, and be a participant in church and community service activities.  

  • This is an annual needs-based scholarship of at least $750.  The total amount and number of award distributions is based on the availability of funds. 

  • Each application is judged on its own merit and awarded to applicants that are exceptional.

  • Applicants may apply each semester. 

  • Scholarship is tax free to the recipient.

Application Process

All GySgt Christopher W. Eckard Scholarship applications must be typed using the application found on this web site.  Applications will not be considered if handwritten.  A completed application along with supporting documentation and proof of military service must be  mailed to the Scholarship Chairman postmarked before the stated deadline.  The Scholarship Committee will review each application and select the winner(s).

Checks will be two-party checks made payable to the applicant (winner) and school.  Funds may be used for qualified education expenses.  This includes but is not limited to tuition and fees; course related expenses such as books, supplies, and equipment.  

Scholarships are awarded without regard to race, color, sex, national origin, age, disability, or genetic information.
